Pantelleria, the ancient Cossyra or Cossura, is an Italian island and commune in the Strait of Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea, 62 miles (100 km) southwest of Sicily and 60 km east of the Tunisian coast. Tunisia is visible from the island on clear days.
Terroir: The vines grow in traces of arable land along the rocky coast where the residue of some 50 extinct volcanoes has collected with sand and pebbles in hollows and declivities. The soil is described as being ‘cinder-dark’ by Nick Belfrage MW and Franco Ziliani (Tom Stevenson: Wine Report 2008, p.121).
Wines: Moscato di Pantelleria DOC. | Pantelleria DOC.
