The Pantelleria DOC from western Sicily in Italy dates from 1971, initially under the Moscato di Pantelleria DOC until it was abbreviated in 2014. The DOC ‘s diverse range of still and sparkling white wines (listed below) are made from the Moscato di Alessandria (‘Zibibbo’) grape variety.

Production zone: This covers the Mediterranean island of Pantelleria which administratively is in Trapani province in the Autonomous Region of Sicily (Sicilia), Italy.

Viticulture: Minimum vine density of 2,000 vines per hectare for new plantings. Yields: Maximum 10 tonnes per hectare for all wine.

Sparkling wines

Pantelleria Bianco DOC Frizzante: 70hl/ha. 85-100% Zibbibo, 0-15% other white grapes authorised in Sicily. The transformation from still to sparkling wine must take place within Sicily. The wine must be bottled in Sicily.

Pantelleria-Moscato DOC Spumante: 100% Zibbibo. 70hl/ha. Traditional method sparkling wine. The transformation from still to sparkling wine and bottling must take place in Sicily.

Still wines

Pantelleria Bianco DOC: 70hl/ha. 85-100% Zibbibo, 0-15% other white grapes authorised in Sicily.

Moscato di Pantelleria Bianco DOC: 100% Zibbibo, 0-15% other white grapes authorised in Sicily. 60hl/ha.

Pantelleria-Zibibbo Dolce DOC: 70hl/ha. 70% Zibbibo. The wine must be bottled in Sicily.

Passito di Pantelleria DOC: 100% Zibbibo, 0-15% other white grapes authorised in Sicily. 40hl/ha. Bottling must take place on Pantelleria.

Pantelleria-Moscato DOC Dorato: 100% Zibbibo. 50hl/ha. The wine must be bottled in Sicily.

Fortfied wines 

Pantelleria-Moscato DOC Liquoroso: 100% Zibbibo: A Vino Dolce Naturale. 85- 100% Zibbibo, 0-15% other white grapes authorised in Sicily. 70hl/ha. Forti”cation must take place on Pantelleria. The wine must be bottled in Sicily.

Pantelleria DOC Liquoroso Passito DOC: A Vino Dolce Naturale. 100% Zibbibo. 55hl/ha.The grapes must shrivel and undergo fortification on Pantelleria. The wine must be bottled in Sicily.
