Terreno is an organic winery in Greve in Chianti in the Chianti Classico DOCG region of Tuscany, Italy located due north of Greve itself. Terreno is not to be confused with Podere Terreno which is an estate in Radda in Chianti. Terreno’s Chianti Classico wines are well made, understated, easy to miss in a big blind tasting line up. Vin Santo del Chianti Classico DOC is also made.
Owner: The Runne (Swedish) family since 1988. They also have an hotel in Stockholm, The Winery Hotel.
Staff: Winemaking consultant: Federico Staderini.
Vineyards 150ha of land in total. Vineyards, olives, forest (oak, chestnut). Evidence suggests viticulture and olive growing have been practiced here since AD46. The vines are in three areas. One vineyard is north-east of Greve town, near the winery, at 300m on the right bank of the Greve river, a hot site on loamy soils. On the opposite hill is the Bonili vineyard planted I 2000 on terraces at 6,000 vines per ha on loamy soils. The third vineyard is in Località Sillano (the backside of the Montefioralle hills), several kilometres due west of Greve itself, on stony, calcareous soils, facing south-west.
Organic certification: 2014 First vintage with full organic certification.
