Paradiso di Cacuci is an estate winery located in Località Paradiso in the Montosoli area northwest of the city of Montalcino in Tuscany, Italy. It produces Rosso di Montalcino DOC and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG red wines. It was originally founded by the Fastelli family in 1965–see Paradiso di Fastelli Mauro and was sold to its current owner in 2018.
Owner: Dr. Ovidiu-Gogu Cacuci’s family (a family of doctors) since 2018. Dr. Ovidiu-Gogu Cacuci ran a private healthcare business, the Pelican group, in his native Romania.
Sales strategy: Want to focus on direct sales to people who visit. Have a bar and hospitality area for this. The rosé wine (below) is made for visitors.
Consultant: Dr Andrea Mazzoni (he consulted on winemaking)to the previous owners and was kept on by the new ones). Prof. Dr. Roberto Lamorgese advises on viticulture.
Vineyards: 2020 Estate 6.5ha (16.25 acres) of land in the Montosoli area northwest of the city of Montalcino, below Località Madonna delle Grazie and facing Capanna di Cencioni. 350–370 m (1135 ft.) above sea level. The soil is rich in stones with the presence of clay and sand. 5 ha of which 4.5ha of Sangiovese. Brunello di Montalcino, 1 ha. Rosso di Montalcino and 5 ha. by I.g.t. Sangiovese. 2020 Rented vines include 1.5ha of 100% Sangiovese (below Caparzo) of which 0.5ha of IGT and 1ha of Brunello di Montalcino. The rest (1.5ha) of the land is for buildings, tracks and so on.
Winery: Fermentation in stainless steel. Ageing in Slavonian oak (under both Fastelli and his successors).
Production: 25–40,000 bottles annually. 18,000 of Brunello di Montalcino and 7,000 of Rosso di Montalcino DOC. Also IGT.
Wines
Toscana Rosato IGT, PA: 2019 70% Sangiovese, 15% each Cabernet Franc and Merlot. 22m in barrel. Juicy, clear, fullish, well made if perhaps a tad angular, not surprising given the blend (Visit 2020).
Rosso di Montalcino DOC, Paradiso di Cacuci: 12 months in in Slavonian oak. Looking for a Rosso capable of ageing and developing in bottle.| 2018 4,000 bottles. 12m in oak. Juicy, sappy, bright, nice fruit-tannin weight, round and direct (Visit 2020). Another bottle L02/20 was bright, savoury, a little bit of backbone with broad sappy, mouthwatering fruit (Dec 2020). | 2019 A refreshing, moreish Rosso di Montalcino, with clear fruit and perfect weight. Very juicy and enjoyable (Feb 2022). 14% alc.
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Paradiso di Cacuci: 36 months in Slavonian Garbellotto oak. | 2015 14% alc. Fermented in stainless steel. 36 months in Slavonian oak botti (Garbelotto). 22,600 bottles. Pale ruby. Bright, smooth, saline, nice and sappy, clear fruit, appetising (Visit 2020). | 2016 A juicy Brunello of medium weight whose bright, sappy fruit is very smoothly expressed and (Feb 2023).
