Jura is a region in eastern France with its own Côtes de Jura AOC (see link below). The region has been described as ‘a country of swollen rivers, lakes, wooded mountain slopes and a surprising variety of wines,’ (Hugh Johnson & Hubrecht Duijker: 1987, p.19).
Terroir: Jura’s vineyards lie mainly on the west-facing foothills of the Jura Mountains’ Premier Plateau, on varied soils dominated by limestone and marl (clay-limestone) of varying colours (Wink Lorch, 2014, p.17-18).
Climate: Classified as northern semi-continental, with cold winters, warm summers and high rainfall (Wink Lorch, 2014, p.18).
