Amelia is a town and commune of the province of Terni, in the south-west of the Umbria region of central Italy, near the border with Lazio (Latium). It grew up around an ancient hill fort, known to the Romans as Ameria. The municipal territory is located at the southern end of the sub-Apennine chain of the Amerini mountains (‘Colli Amerini’) and is mainly hilly.
