The Colli Amerini DOC dates from 1994 and covers still wines of all three colours from Terni province in Umbria, central Italy. The Colli Amerini or Amerini hills comprise a mountain chain within the Sub-apennine range.

Terroir: The Amerini hills stretch towards Terni, east of the Tiber (Tevere) river, along a valley whose warming influence adds extra body to Malvasia, Montepulciano and Merlot, amongst other varieties.

Production zone: All of the communes of Attigliano, Giove, and Penna in Teverina; and part of the communes of Alviano, Amelia, Calvi dell’Umbria, Guardea, Lugnano in Teverina, Montecastrilli, Narni, Otricoli, San Gemini, and Terni.

White wines

Colli Amerini Bianco DOC: 70-85% Trebbiano Toscano, plus 15-30% Grechetto, Verdello, and Garganega, and 0-10% Malvasia Toscana. 0-15% non-aromatic grapes permitted in Terni province may also be used.

Colli Amerini Bianco DOC Malvasia: 85-100% Malvasia Toscana. 0-15% Trebbiano Toscano or other white grape permitted in Terni province.

Pink wines

Colli Amerini Rosato DOC: 65-80% Sangiovese, 20-35% Montepulciano, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo, and Barbera jointly or on their own plus an optional 0-10% Merlot whose maximim is 10%.

Red wines

Colli Amerini Rosso DOC: 65-80% Sangiovese. 20-35% Montepulciano Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo, Merlot, or Barbera jointly or on their own except for Merlot whose maximim is 10%.

Colli Amerini Rosso DOC Novello: 65-80% Sangiovese. 20-35% Montepulciano, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo, Barbera or Merlot jointly or on their own although the maximim for Merlot  is 10%.

Colli Amerini Rosso DOC Superiore: 65-80% Sangiovese. 20-35% Montepulciano, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo, Merlot, or Barbera jointly or on their own except for Merlot whose maximim is 10%.

Colli Amerini Rosso DOC Merlot: 85-100% Merlot.

Colli Amerini Rosso DOC Merlot Riserva: 85-100% Merlot.
