Vagnoni is an estate winery in the highly regarded Frazione Pancole in the San Gimignano region of Tuscany in Italy. It makes Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG white wines and Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG reds.
Owner: Luigi Vagnoni. A good grower.
Background: In 1953 Luigi Vagnoni’s parents bought the estate; the family was originally from Le Marche, but as land was going cheap here due to rural depopulation they bought some, expanding from 10 hectares to forty-two by 1972 when the grandfather died.
Vineyards: In Pancole (see link above). 43ha of land including 14ha of vines of which in 2012 7ha of Vernaccia and 7ha of Chianti Colli Senesi and IGT Rosso. Elisabetta Fagiuoli from Montenidoli told me this estate makes very good Vernaccia. Have the best bit of San Gimignano.
