Teroldego is a native Italian red grape variety, the signature red grape variety of Trentino, specifically in Campo Rotaliano (see Teroldego Rotaliano DOC). It is also found in Tuscany, and Sicily. See Ian D’Agata (2014 p.445-6).
National Registry code number: 231.
Family links: Teroldego is a parent of Lagrein and Marzemino.
Where grown–Trentino: Trentino DOC. | Teroldego Rotaliano DOC. | Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGP.
Viticulture: It struggles in windy conditions as its berries detach easily. In humid conditions it succumbs easily to rot.
Wine style: Notably deep colour. Wines show bright fruit and supple tannins. Aromas and flavours of red and black cherry, tar, fresh spices and herbs. Vegetal when under ripe. See Ian D’Agata (Native Wine Grapes of Italy, 2014 p.445-6).
