Tenuta Montagnani is an organic estate in Località Casale in the north-east of the San Gimignano region, Tuscany in Italy. It produces Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG white wines.

Staff: 2019 No external consultants, either for organics or winemaking.
Vineyards: 2019 10ha of vines on a 50ha estate (also 12ha of olives (efforts are made to maintain old trees, some of which may be biotypes), 10ha of pasture, 15ha of forest. Little plots of vines in various spots. Some owned, others rented. Old vines are the subject of University research (2019).
“Through DNA tests I found an old Tuscan white vine and I have the only vines left alive in the world of this variety, from which we make a white wine called Sovernaja,’ Federico Montagnani told me on 15 July 2022.
Organics: Alternate vineyard rows are sown with cover crops or the sward is left to grow naturally.
Polyculture: For family consumption veal calves, pigs, chickens, rabbits and pigeons are kept. Also horses (recreation).
Organic certification: 2010 First vintage with full organic certification.
Winemaking: Hand picked. Grapes are cooled in a cool room. Whole bunch pressed. Fermented in stainless steel. Cement tanks. Slow ferments for Vernaccia. The juice is cooled for 96 hours, lees in suspension. Only fine lees [check].

Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG: 2017 100% Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Lovely fruit, understated, crisp and salty, light but with underlying intensity (2019 Anteprima).

Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG, Assola: A cru. 1970s vines. Sandy soil rich in fossils. | 2017 100% Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Debut vintage. Fermented in concrete. Left on fine lees into the summer. Very nice texture and salinity (2019 Anteprima).
