Scharzhofberg is a very steep south to south-east facing vineyard site in Wiltingen, Germany, the Saar region’s most renowned vineyard site. It is classified as an Ortseil, allowing its wines to be labelled simply as Scharzhofberg rather than as Wiltinger Scharzhofberg. Its Rieslings are the Saar’s ‘most elegant wines, exceptionally refined, perfect balance of peach-like fruit and racy acidity according to Stuart Pigott (1995, p.33). The Scharzhof estate lies at the foot of the vineyard (see Egon Müller-Scharzhof, below).
