Owner: Herman de Bode. Belgian. Worked for McKinsey, now retired. He bought it from the Pacini family headed by Giampaolo Pacini. Their consultant oenologist was Vittorio Fiore, and the winemaker was Alyson Morgan. Herman de Bode created his own team going forward. His first vintage was 2015.
Vineyards: 4ha (2019). Near Castello di Volpaia. At 500-550 metres.
– Il Cortaccio SW-facing. Varied soil of flysch sandstone, clay, silt. 0.5ha Sangiovese. 2012 planted. 5,000 vines/ha. Clone M1. Rootstocks: 420A and 101-14 Millardet et de Grasset. 2015 was the first crop.
– Il Prato | At the crest of the Capaccia property. South-facing. Galestro over deep clay. 0.34ha of Sangiovese planted 2012. Clones: F9, A5, 48, T19. On 420A and 101-14. 5,000 vines per ha. Chianti Classico DOCG.
– Le Capanelle | On a steep southern slope. Risk of erosion, so cover cropped. The vines at the base of the slope are more vigorous and the clusters are thinned in the summer to ensure a complete maturation. Planted 2007. Soil: flysch, sandstone, marl, shale, clay. 0,92 hectares. Slope: 19%. Southeast-facing. 5000 vines/hectare. 89% Sangiovese. Clones: F9, VCR23. Rootstocks: 1103 Paulsen, 110 Richter. Also 11% Ancellotta. Clone F18 on Kober 5BB.
– Lo Scopiccio | On the southeast facing side of the hill. 12% slope. 1.72ha of Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet franc and Sangiovese. Planted 2012. The soil is similar to the Cortaccio vineyard but has less silt and better drainage. Soil: flysch, sandstone, marl, shale, clay. 1,72 hectare. 5000 vines/hectare. Sangiovese (25%). Clone M1 on 420A, 101.14. Cabernet franc (26%). Clone 214 on 110R, 420A. 48% Cabernet sauvignon clones 337 and 169 on 3309.
