Background: The previous owner was Roman Antonioli, a lawyer from Rome. Anthony Nigel Dunkley (son of John Dunkley of Riecine in Chianti Classico) was also involved in some way.
Vineyards: 8.9ha (22 acres). At Pietraia Poggio di Cortona. A hill overlooking Cortona. 310m above sea level and 3km from Lake Trasimeno. South-east facing.
Red wines
Cortona Rosso DOC Merlot, Laudario: 2010 100% Merlot. £15-29.99. Lightly oaked. Sweaty saddle nose, herby, thin middle, chocolate, lacks charm, herbal-stalky tannin, baked acetic finish (DWWA 02nd May 2013).
Cortona Rosso DOC Cabernet Sauvignon, Laudario: 2010 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Lightly oaked. £15-29.99. Menthol and blackcurrant, ripe and even, plenty of fruit and wood tannin, quite astringent in some ways given the alcohol which has acted as a solvent (DWWA 02nd May 2013).
Cortona Rosso DOC Sangiovese, Alterio: 2010 100% Sangiovese.
Cortona Rosso DOC Syrah, Laudario: 2010 100% Syrah. Lightly oaked. £15-29.99. Very smoky new oak, medicinal almost, dry, way too much oak (DWWA 02nd May 2013).
