Cortona is a hilltop town located on a steep spur on the edge of the Val di Chiana in the south of Arezzo province, on the border with the province of Siena in Tuscany, and the Umbria region of central Italy. It gives its name to the Cortona DOC. The town, whose buildings are the colour of its sandstone, is still partly surrounded by a circle of Etruscan walls.
