Hans & Andreas Gsellmann is a third generation family owned estate winery in Gols in the Neusiedlersee region of Austria. The estate is certified Biodynamic by respekt-BIODYN. Hans’s son Andreas Gsellmann (his wife is called Andrea) is responsible for the vinification. He joined the family winery after a work placement at Count Stephan von Neipperg in Saint-Émilion. The time in France also lead to the switch to bio-dynamic cultivation at Gsellmann winery in 2007.
Vineyards: In Gols, Neusiedlersee. In 2016 there were 22 hectares (40% white). Andreas told me he was planting Scheurebe (respekt–Bio-dyn 2016).
Vineyard sites: Altenberg, Ungerberg, Goldberg, Gabarinza, Salzberg, Spiegel, Rosenberg, and Zwickelacker.
Biodynamic certification: 2007 Conversion to organics began. | 2010 First vintage with full organic certification. | 2012 First vintage certified as Biodynamic by respekt-BIODYN (Lacon did the inspection).
White wines
Chardonnay
Grauburgunder: 2015 14 days on skins. Very savoury, decent weight, bit blurred in terms of flavour(?) but nice acid (respekt–Bio-dyn 2016).
Pinot Blanc, Pannobile Goldberg: 2013 12%. Skin ferment. <2g/l RS. 30% MLF. 2014 500-ltre oak. Very nice acid, wood a bit four-square and also bit primary (respekt–Bio-dyn 2016).
Traminer: 2015 Barrel sample. Very savoury, bit saline, some tangerine too (respekt–Bio-dyn 2016).
Weissburgunder, Pannobile Goldberg: 2013 12%. | 2016 13% alc.

Blauer Zweigelt, Exempel: 2017 13% alc. L23/2018. Lovely fruit, smooth, well weighted, fluid and clear (late May 2019).
Blauer Zweigelt, HeideBoden:
Blaufrankisch: 2014 Wild. Lovely lovely red (Millésime Bio 2016).
Pinot Noir Goldberg:
Ried Gabarinza: 2011 Blaufrankisch and Merlot. Good clarity again if a hint of bitterness (respekt–Bio-dyn 2016).
Heideboden Rot:
Pannobile Rot: 2011 50% each Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt. Nice deep ruby purple. Very juicy and ripe and deep without being heavy, also quite primary but not Beaujolais-like. Lovely weight, freshness, brightness, satisfying and again saline end (respekt–Bio-dyn 2016). | 2015 50% each Blaufrankisch and Sant Laurent. Very nice soft, pure, ripe fruit (Trespekt–Bio-dyn 2016). | 2016 Gsellmann Andreas on the front label. LN 11296/18. Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt. 13% alc. Nice and rich, with a little touch of Brett (tasted 01 June 2019).
