Château Moulin Pey-Labrie is an organic estate in Fronsac, a commune in the Fronsadais on the right bank of the Bordeaux region. The estate produces red wines under the Fronsac and  Canon-Fronsac AOC. Château Moulin Pey-Labrie takes its name from a 12th-century windmill on the the hilltop or “pey” from which both Libourne and the Pont d’Aquitaine are visible. A previous owner of Château Moulin Pey-Labrie in the mid-19th century was Paul Princeteau, painter of animals and friend of Toulouse-Lautrec.

Owner: Sté du Chateau Moulin Pey-Labrie. Bénédicte Renard (computer specialist) and Grégoire Hubau (a chemist). They are from the north of France, and neither come from winemaking families. Bénédicte and Grégoire Hubau bought Château Moulin Pey-Labrie in 1988 from Yvette Seurt, after three years of research.

Vineyards: Around 15ha of vines in the Fronsac and Canon Fronsac AOC. When Bénédicte and Grégoire bought Moulin Pey-Labrie it had 6.75ha of vines (95% Merlot, 5% Malbec) on hillsides over molasse de Fronsadais. In 1990 they they added two smaller 100% Merlot vineyards which formed a second 8ha property. These were Château Moulin de Lariveau which they re-named Château Haut Lariveau (4.5ha of Merlot in Saint-Michel de Fronsac on a gravelly-clay plateau (‘un plateau argilo-graveleux’); and Château des Combes-Canon (3.5ha), a combe on clay-limestone (‘une combe argilo-calcaire’).

Organic certification: 2015 First vintage with full organic certification.
