Casciana Terme is a spa town and quiet holiday resort, officially a ‘frazione’ or territorial subdivision of the scattered Italian municipality of Casciana Terme Lari, in the Province of Pisa, in Tuscany. Until 1927 it was a fraction of the municipality of Lari, and formerly called Bagno ad Acqua and Bagni di Casciana. Casciana Terme was then an autonomous municipality also merging the hamlets of Ceppato, Collemontanino, Parlascio and Sant’Ermo. Casciana Terme is surrounded by hills covered with vines, peaches and olives.

Casciana’s waters, rich in mineral salts, spring from volcanic rock at temperatures of 36ºC. They are recommended for the treatment of circulatory disorders, hypertension, arthritis, rheumatism, asthma and bronchitis. Treatment takes the form of baths, mud baths, inhalations or the consumption of water. There are several springs at Casciana Terme. La Sorgente Termale or The Hot Spring is considered one of the healthiest thermal springs in Italy. The Mathilda Spring (La Sorgente Mathilda), first recorded in 1824, is clear and odourless, with a slightly sour taste. The source of the spring is located within the spa facilities.
