Lari is a walled mountaintop hamlet, a ‘frazione’ or territorial subdivision, one which constitutes the capital of the scattered Italian municipality of Casciana Terme Lari, in Pisa Province in Tuscany, Italy. Until 2013 it was an autonomous municipality, also composed of the hamlets of Casciana Alta, Cevoli, Lavaiano, Perignano, San Ruffino and Usigliano. Lari is located between Crespina and Capannoli in the Monti Pisani or Pisa hills about 60 ms (37 mi) southwest of Florence and 25 kms (16 mi) southeast of Pisa. The village has a Medicean fortress and the Church of the Assunta. Lari’s history dates from before the 8th century BC with strong references to Etruscan architecture.
