Bisamberg is a hill on the north bank of the Danube river in the Vienna (Wien) region of Austria. The Danube river (or Donau in Austrian) separates its vineyards from those of the (south-facing) Nussberg and Kahlenberg sites directly opposite (Giles MacDonogh: 1992, p.41).
Fritz Wieninger of Weingut Wieninger (which see for detailed comments on this terroir) says ‘the soils of the Bisamberg comprise light sandy loess. This soil is highly water permeable and the sub-soil is extremely calcareous, over solid limestone, and are particularly chalky. The clay content is distinctly lower in Bisamberg than Nussberg, and Bisamberg gets more wind compared to Nussberg.’
