Agricola Giampiero Marrone is located in Annunziata, a commune in Cuneo province in the Piemonte (Piedmont) region of Italy. White wines include Langhe DOC Arneis.

Background: Grandad was a sharecropper, came back from World War Two. Worked for Fontanafredda. Bought land in La Morra (where the cellar is) and Castiglione Falletto. His son was Giampiero Marrone. Giampiero handed over to his three daughters, Alessandra (oenologist), Denise (marketing), and Serena (admin and sales).

Staff: In 2014 Donato Lati was hired to shake up the winemaking.

Vineyards: 18 ha. 180,000 bottles of which  21,000 of Arneis. Vines in Madonna del Como surround by forest.

Viticulture: Giampiero told me at the winery on 20th May 2017 he used no herbicides, and had a soil-lifter to keep grass cover, to prevent erosion, and to allow rain to filter into the soil.

Langhe Arneis DOC: The Arneis grape variety was facing extinction but, after being replanted on the Langhe hills in the 1970s, it gradually became the symbol of the production of white wines in the area. See Giampiero Marrone’s comments on Arneis.
