Rock is a soil type, one which Tom Stevenson (2011) says ‘may be loosely described as a mass of mineral matter. There are three basic types of rock: igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary (or aqueous or stratified).’ Rock is called ‘la roche’ in French.
