Potter Valley AVA is located in northern Mendocino County and therefore within the North Coast AVA in California, United States of America. It is named after the Potter Valley, an inland valley east of Mendocino’s Redwood Valley (see Redwood Valley AVA) in upland Potter Valley and more than 200 feet higher than its surrounding areas. This creates wider day-night temperature variations than in other growing areas in Mendocino. Mid-day temperatures can be high, nighttime temperatures very low. Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Pinot Noir are the most successful grape varieties.
