Lorieri, also known as Podere Scurtarola di Lorieri Pier Paolo, is an estate in Massa Carrara, in Alto Tuscany, Tuscany.
Background: For over 150 years the family has been producing wine from its own vineyards of the Candia dei Colli di Candia DOC region. Wines are made under the Candia dei Colli Apuani DOC, and red and white Toscana IGT wines.
The name: The name of the farm derives from the dialectal term “Scurtarola”, used to indicate the shortcut; the small road that connects the outskirts of Massa with the city of Carrara, passing through the Candia vineyards, is referred to as the “path of the scurtarola”. Passing right next to the house built by the great-grandfather Federico. The estate extends over a land of over 5 hectares, located in the hills, these are, by ancient tradition, planted with vineyards.
Terroir: The characteristics of the soil, consisting of quartz-feldspathic sandstones interspersed with siltstones and clays, a microclimate favored by the presence of the sea and the happy exposure of the vineyards to midday, make the Podere Scurtarola farm an excellent area for the production of Candia dei Colli Apuani , of White Wines and Red Wines. The main objective of the company has always been the enhancement of traditional vines. “Colline del Candia”, covered with pine, heather, juniper and myrtle woods, between terraces, supported by walls, built as 2000 years ago only with turf “todiche ”.
