Piombino is a town and commune on the Tuscan coast in the Province of Livorno, Italy. It lies on the border between the Ligurian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea, in front of the island of Elba the northern part of the Maremma. Ferry services from its port connect with the island of Elba and further afield. Its vineyards fall within the Val di Cornia DOC. Rosemary George MW: 2004, p.277) described Piombino as ‘an industrial town dominated by now defunct steelworks. However it boasts an unexpectedly attractive historical centre.’
