The Pelago Valley in Tuscany is named after the town of Pelago which it is overlooked by and which is located about 30km from Florence. The valley extends from the plains to the mountains, and is home to hills dotted with vineyards, olive groves, country homes, castles and villages. In wine terms the Pelago Valley runs from Pontassieve to Pelago and falls within the Chianti Rufina DOCG.

Terroir: Dr Ian d’Agata says this area is sunny, warm and much drier than other parts of the Chianti Rufina DOCG. This  gives rise to early ripening and thus to some of Rufina’s ripest, richest reds.

Wineries: Castello di Nipozzano. | Fattoria I Veroni.
