Pontassieve is a municipality in the Metropolitan city of Florence in Tuscany, some 9 miles (14kms) south east of the city of Florence. Pontassieve, which has a medieval centre, also lies on the edge of the Chianti Rùfina DOCG

Pontassieve translates as Sieve bridge, in this case built by the Medicis and at the confluence of the Arno and Sieve rivers (the Sieve rises in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and is a tributary of the Arno). Historically, Pontassieve has been trading hub between the city of Florence and the Valle di Mugello, or Mugello valley (north of Florence), the Valdisieve or Sieve river valley and Valdarno (the Arno river valley) areas. Several merchant wineries have their HQs here, including Frescobaldi, Melini and Ruffino, benefitting from road links that connect the Valdarno with Florence and at the junction of the roads to Arezzo, the Mugello valley and the Romagna region.
