Azienda Agricola Nottola is an estate winery in Località Nottola in the southern sector of the Montepulciano region of Tuscany. The estate makes Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG, Rosso di Montepulciano DOC, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG red wines, plus a Vin Santo di Montepulciano DOC.

Owner: Anterivo Giomarelli bought the estate in 1989 and hired Riccardo Cotarella as consultant. Now run by Giuliano Giomarelli and his daughter, Gloria

Vineyards: 1989 In 1989 the estate consisted of the Villa Bracci (19th-century) itself, land on which there were typical Tuscan farmhouses, and around 10 hectares (24.7 acres) of vines, to which another 10ha were added, making 20 hectares (49.4 acres) in total. The vines are located in the Gracciano, Località La Ciarliana, and Caggiole sub-zones of Montepulciano.

Wine production: 160,000 bottles.

White wines

Toscana Bianco IGT Pergloria: ‘For Gloria’ (mentioned above). 60% Vermentino, 40% Pinot Bianco near Villa Bracci at 300 metres (984 feet).

Red wines

Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG: 60% Sangiovese, 40% other red grapes.

Toscana Rosso IGT Anterivo: A SuperTuscan. 50% each Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Montepulciano Rosso DOC: 2012 Vat sample: mid-bright ruby, bright modern cherry-berry (Anteprima 2014). | 2019 85% Sangiovese, 15% Petit Verdot. 4m in oak. Sweet fruit, dusty oak, dry fruit (Anteprima 2020).

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG: 2002 Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese), Canaiolo, Mammolo. Two years in botti. Mix of black and red fruit at the consorzio on Tuesday 8th March 2005. | 2011 80% Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese), 10% Canaiolo, 10% Merlot. Sweet fruit, youthful, mid-weight (Anteprima 2014). | 2015 85% Sangiovese, 15% Petit Verdot. | 2015 Wild-tasting hedgerow fruit, slightly dry texture (Anteprima 2018). | 2017 14.5%. 60,000 bottles. Sappy cherry, dry undertow (Anteprima 2020).

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG Riserva, Origine: 2013 Perhaps not quite enough fruit for some forceful tannins (Anteprima 2018).
