Neusiedlersee-Hügelland in the western part of Burgenland in Austria is named after the Neusiedlersee Lake whose shallowness has a warming influence on the vines. To the west of the Neusiedlersee (on the west bank of lake Neusiedl) lies the Ruster Hügelland, a chain of low hills. Kurt Feiler says these hills ‘are ideally suited for producing the so called Trilogy of Rust’, meaning white, red, and noble sweet wines.
