Montefioralle is an organic winery in the eponymously name locality (‘frazione’) in Greve-in-Chianti in the Chianti Classico DOCG region of Tuscany, Italy. Red wines are made under the Chianti Classico DOCG. A Vin Santo del Chianti Classico DOC is also produced.
Owner: Alessia Sieni (sic). Lorenzo Sieni.
Staff: 2020: Consultant oenologist: Elisabetta Barbieri. Vineyards: Paolo Bertoni.
Background: The winery was established in 1964 by Renato Sieni, who, upon retirement, took over the management of the vineyards that had been run for centries by the villa (Catholic) priest. Helped by his son Fernando, Renato planted new grapevines and started producing a Chianti Classico wine called Santo Stefano a Montefioralle. This is how the production of Chianti Classico, granted by the local parish, started in Montefioralle. After the church administration finally decided to give up the vineyard in the 1990s, the Sieni family immediately bought it. Now Fernando’s eldest daughter, Alessia, is the official owner of the estate and the winery. She runs the estate with her brother Lorenzo and her father.
