Montecarlo is located in Lucca province in north west Tuscany, Italy. It is one of four of communes in the Montecarlo DOC to which it gives its name. Montecarlo lies south of Pescaia, and overlooks the Valdinievole. The town’s 14th-century Rocca del Cerruglio still has its walls and entrance gate. Montecarlo’s original name was Viviana from ‘Via Vinaria’ or ‘Wine Way’.
