Mittelburgenland DAC (Districtus Austriae Controllatus) is a red wine only denomination from Blaufränkisch grown in four municipalities (see below) in the Mittelburgenland wine growing region of Austria, its spiritual home. Since this is the most important growing region in Austria for this variety, and because the variety is the most important one for the region, Mittelburgenland has also become known as “Blaufränkischland”. The DAC was awarded in 2005. 

Production zone: Four municipalities: Deutschkreutz, Horitschon, Lutzmannsburg and Neckenmarkt.

Vineyards: 2,041 hectares of Blaufränkisch.

Vineyard area: 2,041 ha.
