Mauro Monicchi is a consultant from who is based in Umbria in his native Italy. He is an agronomist with a degree in Agricultural Sciences (Plant Production) from the University of Perugia and an oenologist having graduated at the University of Bordeaux under Prof. Yves Glories. His thesis was on the “Phenolic ripening of Sangiovese in Chianti. Adaptation of vinification”.
Part of his study in the mid-1990s involved working at Château Moulin à Vent in Moulis en Médoc in the Moulis AOC for Dominique Hessel and in St-Émilion. Based on his experience in Médoc, he wrote a scientific thesis on the “Influence of the different soils of Saint-Emilion on the phenolic composition of red wines” for the Syndicat Viticole di Saint-Emilion (Bordeaux, France), under the supervision of Professor Y. Glories.
He was the production manager for the Adanti winery in Bevagna (Perugia, Italy) from September 1996 to July 2001. In September and October 2001 he managed production for Gabriel Meffre (Gigondas, France) in Costieres de Nîmes AOC.
In Montalcino he has worked with Caprili, La Velona, Tenute Silvio Nardi and Sirò Pacenti. In the Orcia DOC he has worked with Il Moro di San Giovanni. He has also worked with Agricola San Felice Castelnuovo Berardenga (Chianti Classico).
