Manduria is a city in the province of Taranto in the Puglia (‘Apulia’ in English) region in the far south-east of Italy, 22 miles (35km) east of the port city of Taranto itself, on the heel of the Italian boot, on the road from Taranto to Lecce. Manduria takes its name from an ancient Messapian city, part of whose megalithic circular walls remain. In the modern town are found the Duomo, a Jewish ghetto, and the 18th-century Palazzo Imperiali.
