Madonna Nera is an estate in Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy. It produces Rosso di Montalcino DOC and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.

Staff: Oen: Carlo Ferrini (a family friend).
Vineyards: Originally 3ha in Castelnuovo dell’Abate but at Benvenuto Brunello 2015 I was told there are now 6ha of vines (all owned, not rented): 4 hectares near the winery at Località La Madonna, and 2ha in Sant’Antimo.

Red wines
Rosso, Madonna Nera: This wine’s former name was Fontenova Rosso. | 60% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. Aged in 500-litre tonneaux (first and second fill) for 14 months.
Rosso di Montalcino DOC: 2013 7,000 bottles. Debut. Light, fruit a bit greenish and dry ( Benvenuto Brunello Feb 2015).
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Madonna Nera: 2009 6,000 bottles. 30 months in 500-litre tonneaux. Sweet and over-ripe, adjusted acidity it seemed to me (Benvenuto Brunello 2014). | 2010 6,700 bottles. Sweet and plump, bit simple and obvious, no great length ( Benvenuto Brunello 2015).
