Macerata is the capital city of Macerata province in the Italian region of Le Marche. Located between the Potenza and Chienti rivers, both of which originate in the province, the city of Macerata is located on a hill. The walled city was at the height of its powers from the 16th- to 19th centuries. The Piazza della Liberta features the Renaissance Loggia dei Mercanti and the Torre Maggiore between stately 17th- and 18th-century buildings.
