The Languedoc-Roussillon region of France is described by Rosemary George MW (1997) as ‘where the old world meets the new in southern France.’

Vineyard area: A taxpayer funded vine pull scheme (‘primes d’arrachage’) saw the Languedoc-Roussillon vineyard decrease from 400,000ha to 300ha.
