Languedoc, region in France. See also Roussillon.
Denominations: Clairette de Languedoc AOC. | Coteaux du Languedoc AOC. | Côtes de Thongue. | Languedoc Blanc AOC. | Muscat de Frontignan AOC. | Muscat de Saint-Jean-de-Minervois AOC. | Pic Saint Loup AOC.
Lack of Brands: Simon Woods (Wine & Spirit, November 2006) says that although the Languedoc has been touted as France’s New World, there is no southern French equivalent of New Zealand’s Montana [now Brancott Estate], Chile’s Concha y Toro, or Australia’s Penfolds; and while the biggest brand JP Chenet may have a nice bottle, quality-wise its ‘wines leave much to be desired.’
