Heissenstein | A lieu-dit in the commune of Nothalten in the Bas-Rhin, Alsace.

Vineyard area | 10 hectares (24.7 acres).

Terroir | Tom Stevenson (1993, p249-50) says this site combines an unfavourable cool north-east aspect with fortuitously stony, heat-retaining soils–Heissenstein translates as ‘hot stones’–making it suitable for early ripening varieties such as Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir.
