Hawk and Horse Vineyards is a Demeter-certified estate vineyard and winery located in the Red Hills AVA of Lake County in the North Coast of California.
Owners: Mitch and Tracey Hawkins.
Vineyards: 6 hectares (25 acres) producing around 2,200 cases (IBWC 2018). On the Diamond B Ranch. Between 550-670 metres (1,800 to 2,200 feet). Sloping hillside terrain. Red rocky volcanic soils studded with “Lake County Diamonds”. Fed by natural springs.
Organic, Biodynamic certification: 2004 Full organic certification for the first time via CCOF. | 2008 First vintage with full Demeter Biodynamic certification for the vineyards. 2018 Still Demeter certified.
Red wines
Cabernet Sauvignon: 2013 100% estate grapes. 1,500 cases. Bit heavy and oaky international (IBWC 2018).
Petit Verdot: 2013 110 cases. Bit extracted (IBWC 2018).
Sweet wines
Latiogo: 2013: A Port-style wine. Late harvested Cabernet Sauvignon. Fortified (with grape spirit).
