Fattoria Santavenere is an estate vineyard and winery in the of Montepulciano region of Tuscany.

Owner: It was bought by the Triacca family in 1990 from Massimo Romeo, under whom it had been called Poderuccio.

Background: There were 6 hectares (14.8 acres) of vines (80 hectares of land in total, farmland and woodland) at the time of the sale, but this has since grown (see below). The main wine is Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG. See Casa Vinicola Triacca for details of the family’s other Italian wine interests.

Staff: Manager: Luca Triacca. Vineyards: Romano Ceccarelli.

Vineyards: 37 hectares (91 acres) in the Poggiano sub-zone in the western sector of Montepulciano. 80% Sangiovese.

Winery: A red brick, circular, decagonal building near the Tempio di San Biago. Automatic punch downs. Underground barrel cellar. An underground passage connects the new building to the pre-existing one.

White wine

San Bartolomeo: 2013 Chardonnay. Clean and modern with, I guess, 4-5 g/l residual sugar (Anteprima 2014).

Red wines

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, Fattoria Santavenere2008 90% Sangiovese, 5% each Colorino and Merlot. | 2010 Nice nose if slightly gritty palate, but good fruit in a light, wispish and almost mid-weight style (Anteprima 2014).

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, Poderuccio2009 85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Oak on nose, with toffee also appearing on the palate, so OK but a bit stretched (Anteprima 2014). | 2014 85% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot. A little sour and simple but well made for the year (Anteprima 2018).
