Cowra is a small town in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. It is the largest population centre and the council seat for the Cowra Shire. Cowra is located approximately 310 metres (1,017 ft) above sea level, on the banks of the Lachlan River, in the Lachlan Valley. Cowra gives its name to the Cowra Australian Geographical Indication in the Central West of New South Wales. It lies on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range, west of the Blue Mountains. Cowra is one of three wine regions in Australia’s Central Ranges wine zone, the others being Mudgee and Orange.

Getting there: By road Cowra is approximately 193 miles (310 km) south-west of the state capital, Sydney, and 117 miles (189 km) north of the nation’s capital, Canberra.
