Coste della Sesia DOC is a denomination for wines of all three colours (but mainly red) from hills just east of Biella in the the provinces of Vercelli and Biella in northern Piemonte in north-west Italy. The DOC dates from 1996 and is named after the Sesia river. Pliny the Elder praised the region’s wines in Roman times. The vineyard area expanded in the Middle Ages but remained small scale until the 18th century.

Production zone: The Coste della Sesia DOC production zone includes 18 municipalities. It roughly overlaps with three Nebbiolo-based denominations, namely Gattinara DOC, Lessona DOC and Bramaterra DOC. The vines grow in the northern part of Piemonte, at Vercelli, on the hills west of the Sesia river, east of Biella.
