Château Grand-Renouil is located in Saint-Michel-de-Fronsac in the Fronsadais on the right bank of the Bordeaux region. Red wines are made under the Canon-Fronsac AOC.
Owner: Michel Ponty (he was born on the estate. Two sisters. Pardi, their mother was a pianist). His father bought Château Grand Renouil in 1937, following his own father, Victor, who started selling the wines from the end of the First World War. See also Chateau du Pavillon.
Staff: Peter Kjellberg (oenologist).
Vineyards: 5.5ha. High percentage of old vines is maintained (60 years on average). Small amount of white grapes.
Terroir: On the hillside north-east of Saint-Michel-de-Fronsac. One of the best in Canon-Fronsac, on the sides of a combe hollowed out over time by the Renouil stream, on soils of clay-limestone over star-fish limestone (‘calcaire à astéries‘). A farm belonging to Fontémoing family was once attached to the domain.
