The Central Adige Valley in the Alto Adige (Südtirol) region of northern Italy stretches from Bolzano (‘Bozen’) to Merano (‘Meran’). This is the Terlan Basin, named after the town of Terlano (‘Terlan’), and also including Nals, and Andrian. The climate is dry and the sandy-loam soils are poor (low-humus) but heat-retentive, forcing vines to root deeply to find water.
Vineyard area: 2018 264ha. 71% white. Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc mainly. Also Chardonnay, Muller-Thurgau, Riesling. 29% red (Schiava, Lagrein mainly Also Cabernet, Merlot, Lagrein, Schiava.
Terroir: 250-290 metres altitude. Soils comprise a red porphyry base, water permeable limestone in Nalles and Andriano.
