Castello di Velona is an estate winery in Località La Velona in Castelnuovo dell’Abate in the far south-east of the Montalcino region, Tuscany, Italy. Its main wines are Rosso di Montalcino DOC and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.

Vineyards: 4.5 hectares in a single block in Castelnuovo dell’Abate at Loc. La Velona. Seems like a very good terroir, overlooking the Orcia river.

Red wines

Rosso di Montalcino DOC Castello di Velona: 2013 Bit eggy, citric, light, high yield and no selection, but potentially good terroir lurks beneath it seems (Anteprima 2016).

Brunello di Montalcino Castello di Velona: 2009 20,000 bottles. | 2010 11,000 bottles. Not yet bottled. Bit of funk and brett at (Anteprima 2015). | 2011 Crisp, simple, blurred (Anteprima 2016). | 2012 Bit scrappy and dry (Anteprima 2017).

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva Castello di Velona: 2008 5,000 bottles.
