Castello di Selvole is a winery in Località Selvole in Castelnuovo Berardenga in the Chianti Classico DOCG region of Tuscany. A Vin Santo del Chianti Classico DOC is also made. During the Middle Ages and part of the Renaissance, Siena and Florence were constantly at war, a perpetual conflict that ended only in 1599 when the Republic of Siena was finally defeated and ceased to exist as an independent state. The Arbia River flowed along the border between Florence and Siena and around the hill of Selvole, which formed the last Sienese defense. In circa.1200, around 90 families lived in the castle, housing more than 300 people.
Vineyards: The vineyards are mostly located in the small valley between Selvole and Brolio where Chianti Classico was born 300 years ago. 40 hectares of vineyard. Half was planted at a very high density with Sangiovese and Canaiolo, as well as Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Owner: Guido Busetto.
Staff: Consultant oenologist: Stefano Porcinai.
