Castello di San Donato in Perano is a winery in Perano in the eastern sector of Gaiole-in-Chianti between Gaiole in Chianti and Radda in Chianti, in the Chianti Classico DOCG region of Tuscany, Italy. It went bankrupt in 2014, and was subsequently rented, administered and then bought (in 2017) through a public auction for 13.3 million euros by Marchese Frescobaldi srl (Frescobaldi) who renamed it Tenuta Perano which see. This was Frescobaldi’s first foray into Chianti Classico.
Red wines
IGT Toscana Rosso, Cabernet: 2001 Light colour, quite evolved smell, very green, light and unripe at the winery in 2005.
IGT Toscana Rosso, Pinot Nero: 2001 2,000 bottles. Seems to have a bit of Cabernet in this as very tannic and quite a bit of black fruit at the winery in 2005.
Chianti Classico DOCG, Castello di San Donato in Perano: 2001 Bit stinky; light and dirty at the winery in 2005. €9.20 from the shop. | 2011 100% Sangiovese. Bit high tone, dry, tough, rusty nails at DWWA 1st May 2013. Bronze.

Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva | 2001 Bottled. | 2009 85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. £30-59.99. Crisp palate, sappy/ripe cranberry and redcurrant, ripe and savoury. 16.9 Points. Silver at DWWA 30th April 2013.
