Casalvento is an estate winery in Radda-in-Chianti in the Chianti Classico DOCG region of Tuscany, Italy. Not to be confused with Agricola Casa al Vento in Gaiole in Chianti.
Owner: ‘Bob Cuillo was born in the New York Bronx to a poor family. He went on to own one of America’s biggest car dealerships. He then dedicated himself to another of his passions: music. From the 1970s he produced films and shows on Broadway and in London. In 1997 Bob bought Casalvento in Chianti Classico, and in 2002 he added Livernano, the neighbouring estate [this was owned by Marco Montanari, a Swiss dentist, I think]. This created a property with 185ha of land of which 25ha is vines. Bob Cuillo restored the old Livernano village and turned it into a country resort and restaurant. Cuillo’s wife is called Gudrun,’ (abridged from Filippo Bartolotta: 2014 Decanter Italian Supplement, p.86).
