Bolgheri | Locality (‘frazione’) within the commune of Castagneto Carducci in the province of Livorno (Leghorn) which gives its name to the Bolgheri DOC. The Viale dei Cipressi (‘Cypress tree way’) which forms the approach to Bolgheri is lined either side with Italy’s most famed avenue of cypress trees (2,000 of them), dead straight and almost five kilometres long, which inspired Giosue Carducci (1835-1907), Italy’s leading poet at the turn of the 20th century, and winner of the 1906 Nobel prize.
