Bassa Murgia is an area in the Puglia region of southern Italy. See the Bassa Murgia and Itria Valley. The Bassa Murgia, which lies within the larger area of the Murgia IGT denomination, reflects the classic Puglia preference for red wines, utilising the Primitivo grape, the “father” of Primitivo di Manduria (see Primitivo di Manduria DOC, Primitivo di Manduria DOCG Dolce Naturale) and the mainstay of Gioia del Colle DOC. The Primitivo is found as well in the Valle d’Itria, but in lesser amounts.
